Course Objectives
This course seeks to introduce students to important concepts in the physical sciences.
By completing this course, students will:
- understand that work is the product of force and distance
- calculate force in Newtons using the equation F = M x G
- understand that forces (such as gravity and friction) are always exerted upon us, even when we are at rest
- understand the relationship between Newton's laws of motion and universal law of gravitation and simple machines
- understand that machines give us a mechanical advantage
- identify the 6 simple machines in their everyday lives
- use Archimedes' law of levers to solve real world problems
- build and experiment with simple machines
- calculate the mechanical advantage of inclined planes
- identify ways that simple machines have been used throughout history
This course is appropriate for students aged 9-13.
